Whitefriars Angling Team - 1976

Back row to right: Julian Bennett, Gavin Donaldson, Nick Morris, Pete Holland, Dave Barnes, Simon Glinn.
Front row left to right: Peter Creech, Richard Drew, Nick Broady, Aidan Middleton
Simon's original report (on back of photo) reads - 'The Whitefriars Angling Team 1976 at Upton-on-Severn where the river was in spate for the 1st round KO of the national schools angling championships, but we beat the local team with bronze maggot and castor cocktail quivertipped - and I won the individuals too! A good day all round. We won our second round match against a school from Gloucester on the Glos canal too on appeal - they cheated! - but only came 22nd out of 40 in the final on the Avon upstream from Evesham'

We were always better after the event, 'lost at the net' being a favourite comment. Then there was the 'weighted gudgeon' scandal...
